I am a music theorist and educator with a K-12 and higher education teaching background. I currently work at the North America International School in Shanghai, China, developing and maintaining a dynamic music education program that integrates theory, history, research, performance practice, and technology, with a strong emphasis on project-based learning. I have worked as a music teacher and music director in an international school, managing a music education program to meet the academic and performative needs of students looking to study in Western countries. I also worked at Louisiana State University between 2015 and 2018, teaching aural skills and music theory courses.I am actively engaged in independent and collaborative research that I strive to present and publish in international conferences and journals. My areas of expertise are music theory pedagogy, music technology and e-learning, music and literature, and music and mathematics. My EdD dissertation, “Enhancing Students’ Motivational Capacities in Music Classrooms through Gamification of Curriculum,” intersects the gamification of curriculum, students’ intrinsic motivation, and integrating e-learning platforms, particularly from the self-determination theory perspective. My Ph.D. dissertation, “The Interval Dissonance Rate in Chopin’s Études Op. 10, Nos. 1-4: Dissecting Arpeggiation, Chromaticism, and Linear Progressions,” examined the musical relationships between harmonic dissonance and pianistic interpretations. I also developed a Music Computation Lab in my institution to allow students and faculty members to pursue artistic research in music theory, history, and education.
