Are you working on spacecraft design and hoping to grow the sustainability of the space sector?Are you looking for a passionate Spacecraft Engineer with a background in energy storage, thermal design, and systems engineering?Hi I’m Nicole, a highly motivated spacecraft engineer with six years’ experience in the space sector, and I’m working on my PhD.I know what you might be thinking, the thermal and energy side of a spacecraft aren’t the most exciting, sexy parts – but they are vital. Without a reliable power supply to our spacecraft systems, we might as well be launching space junk. Without well controlled thermal environments for our instruments, we may not be able to trust the data we get back since temperature stability is a major factor in many space applications. I love working on this side of things, designing, and testing the support systems that ensure your payloads perform as needed, while adding minimal complexity to the whole system.While at RAL Space I designed a calibration system for MetOp Third Generation satellite instruments, which required precision thermal engineering, the design I wrote about in two publications. At ABSL I worked with customers to ensure their power needs would be met in-orbit and designed and supported the tests required to validate my work.I’m passionate about using my knowledge make the world a more sustainable place. I’m currently taking a break from the space industry to pursue a PhD in energy storage and batteries, strengthening my research skills and understanding of secondary battery systems and enabling me to work on cutting edge technology.I’m a Chartered Engineer and I’m a Faraday Battery Challenge Advisory Board Member.I love working with motivated people and tough problems, I love designing tests and experiments to help solve those problems too.
