Through my research, speaking, outreach, consulting, collaborations, and educational endeavors I strive to make a difference in the lives of girls and women in sport contexts. As a public scholar I routinely publish in academic journals and give keynote presentations and workshops around the world to a wide variety of groups and sport stakeholders including athletic departments, coaching associations, industry partners, and NGB/NGOs. My dynamic presentations are interactive, engaging, applied, and always evidence-based. My strength is translating knowledge to different audiences and providing thought leadership to accelerate systems change. I also serve on numerous mission-driven, national advisory boards related to girls and women in sport and women's leadership. My research includes illuminating the barriers experienced by female coaches and media representations of women in sport. The annual Women in College Coaching Report Card™ which is aimed at retaining and increasing the number of women in the coaching profession and holding decision makers accountable, my award-winning book Women in Sports Coaching (Routledge 2016), and a documentary GAME ON: Women Can Coach (2018) are examples of how I translate knowledge to create systems change.Currently, I am the Director of the Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sport and a faculty member in the School of Kinesiology at the University of Minnesota. Most importantly change happens by collaborating with like-minded individuals who lift each other up,You can read my blog and learn more about my work at One Sport Voice LLC at nmlavoi.com Follow me on Twitter @DrSportPsych

Product ManagerCoaching Her Nov 2020 - PresentCoaching HER tackles the most central, yet unaddressed, issue in youth sport which negatively impacts girls’ performance, self-perceptions, sport choices and experiences: coaches’ unconscious gender biases and stereotypes. How a girl feels about her coach is one of the most important factors determining whether or not she keeps playing sports.Coaches are powerful role models who can impact a girl’s self-confidence. Yet they often lack the education and training needed to address gender identities, stereotypes and bias. Our Vision: To help more girls get and stay in sport through critical drop-out ages.
