As Executive Director, Newbrough unified and guided the organization through a period of massive change, including the transition to a new concert hall, a change of music directors, organizational rebranding, and internal restructuring. In just four years, the Amarillo Symphony attained four sold-out concert seasons, 227% more sponsorship revenue, year-over-year surplus, 23% growth in net assets, and recognition as the city’s most valuable cultural asset.

As its first professional manager, Newbrough built the administrative capacity and elevated the public image of the orchestra. Through a relentless focus on patron service and revenue development, the organization increased ticket sales 17% within first year, closed the book on deficits, and achieved a 14% increase in subscribership.

Newbrough managed the manage the orchestra during a painful transition. Consulted with Board leaders and facilitated discussions and consensus regarding the music director’s dismissal. Organized an impromptu concert for East Village school children on the evening of September 11, 2001.

Managed 20 composer residencies, conducting workshops in Chicago and Seattle, and the National Youth Orchestra Festival in Sarasota. Oversaw and streamlined administration of a national minority scholarship fund. Provided customer service to more than 900 orchestras and served as primary liaison to 200 youth orchestras and their national board of directors. Developed a new program of mentorships for orchestra executive directors, and strategized a membership plan intended to reach up to 50,000 new potential members.
