Looking back, it seems like computer science chose me before I even knew what coding was. Coming into college, my passion for the sciences and helping people originally pointed me towards healthcare majors such as emergency medicine and nursing. Even though I had some experiences that exposed me to the concept of programming, my desire to have a hands-on approach to helping people kept me on the healthcare track at the beginning. However, people in my life recognized that I had a knack for programming and because of their encouragement I took an Intro Computer Science course and realized I loved it. I also learned that I don't have to abandon my passion for helping people nor my interest in healthcare since computer science is a powerful and growing force for both of those things. However, a natural tact for programming doesn't equate to a good software developer so I've also learned to develop perseverance, grit, and a humble appreciation for mentorship. As a well-rounded individual, I love opportunities that allow my interests such as film editing, drawing, teaching, different cultures, and volunteering to combine with the realm of algorithms and data.Whether in my work or my relationships, I'm always eager for opportunities to improve myself and strengthen those around me.
