Noah Horowitz is the Director of the Clean Cooling Collaborative which aims to improve the energy efficiency of cooling equipment, both air conditioners and refrigeration, and to accelerate the phaseout of refrigerants that contain hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). The goal of this work is to provide clean, climate friendly cooling for all by 2050. Getting cooling right is essential as this sector currently represents 10% of all annual global greenhouse gas emissions and due to grow as 3 billion new air conditioners are projected to be installed by 2050. In this role, Noah leads fundraising efforts, strategy development, and regranting of funds to various organizations around the world to implement this work.

Noah Horowitz was a Senior Scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), a leading environmental advocacy organization, and was the Director of NRDC’s Center for Energy Efficiency Standards whose mission is to improve the energy efficiency of buildings and the equipment inside them. My main areas of focus were consumer electronics and lighting. Two of my biggest contributions were co-leading an international campaign to phase out incandescent light bulbs around the world, and working with the pay TV industry to cut in half the energy used by set top boxes installed in the US. I also co-authored model regulations for air conditioners and refrigeration equipment issued by the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) for use by developing countries.
