I am excited to start a new position with Owens Corning as a Sr. Scientist in their Composites division. I will be responsible for many of the functions around their composite lumber, WEARDECK. I am very thankful for this new role and look forward to what the future holds.
Product Development Scientist
Currently working as a Product Development Scientist within Eastman's Specialty Plastics division. The roles and responsibilities that I take on include; foundational research that spans into next generation polymer technologies, addressing needs in both emerging and existing markets through compounding innovative and sustainable solutions, advising business leadership on best course of actions based on technical understandings of the material, scaling up complex formulations into compounding manufacturing, injection molding parameters and troubleshooting based on customers manufacturing set up, external material certification, and implementing cross-market functionality of existing and new specialty grades. In everything and everywhere that role takes me, safety is always the top priority for myself and those around me. This is achieved through constant situational and environmental awareness, but also through my role as a safety coordinator. In my role, I ensure that our team is up to date on changing safety parameters, leading discussions around industry related accidents and opening discussion around best practices, and keeping track of our groups safety actives which ensures that any identified hazards are handled in a timely manner.
R&D Chemist / Technical Service Representative
This hybrid role was across two divisions and focused on product innovation. As an R&D Chemist I was responsible for the development of new impact modifiers and process aids for engineering resins, along with the improvement/optimization of existing materials. My roles and responsibilities covered; DOE(s), asset coordination, product commercialization, emulsion polymerization scale up, compounding and injection molding various materials, and determining applicable applications for the developed materials. As a Tech-Service Representative, my roles and responsibilities focused primarily on PVV, CPVC, and co-polyester based formulations. Within this, it was my responsibility to oversee and coordinate formulations for NSF certifications, address customer complaints through process improvement implementation at their facility and/or formulation improvement, and focus on processing solutions to implementing formulations in new applications. With many areas being covered in this dual role, safe was always a top priority for both internal and external operations. Determining best practices and constantly assessing the work environment of myself and others was always a priority.
Chief Technology Officer
Directed development and implementation of a hydrocarbon extraction process that was designed around oil sands. The process was scoped and developed by myself and was then scaled up and implemented in field units. The process was 47% more efficient that conventional methods of bitumen extraction and could also be used in remediation processes to clean up after hydrocarbon leaks and spills.
