I am a lifelong learner with an interest in all fields of science, but a high motivation to conduct biological research. Intensely curious as a person, you can expect a worker well experienced with modern research tools and data collection across a range of labs.My time working as a research assistant at Wang Lab has granted me the particular skillset required to work with the Drosophila model organism, as well as an understanding of molecular genetics, animal husbandry, biotech platforms, and ubiquitous benchwork skills. Preceding this, my work at the Marine Mammal Ecology Lab and in bumble bee research taught me about conducting field surveys and data collection in a host of different ecosystems. Coeval with my other working experience, my laboratory assistance at Environmental Health and Safety has yielded a great degree of experience working with HazMat, inspecting laboratries, servicing and using safety equipment, and problem solving with independent contractors, operational staff, and researchers from nearly every department on Western Washington University's campus, in addition to visiting regulators and contractors. I seek further assignments and experiences to help me garner a deeper understanding of the practices required for scientific research.Skills: Instruments - • Well experienced in use of both compound and stereo microscopes as well as SchmidtCassegrain telescopes • Trained on Leica Stellaris 8 confocal microscope and associated platform• Autoclave trained • Experienced in using Nanodrop, thermocycler, and centrifuges • Experience with using Fiji and ImageJ software for fluorescence microscopy• Use of R for compiling data into graphs• OSX and Windows, as well as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Docs • Good editor for writing and audio/video, proficient with Final Cut ProBiological Lab Experience - • Solution making • PCR• Bioinformatic analysis of DNA sequences using Benchling computational tools • Gel Electrophoresis and UV Imaging analysis • Primer design • Enzymatic assays via restriction digest• Culturing bacteria and fungi • Dissection and sample collection General Lab Experience - • Well experienced use with PPE including SnCl4 fit-tested full-face respirators and working in fume hood • Experienced handling: Strong Acids, Strong Bases, Oxidizers, Water Reactives, Combustibles, Mutagens, and Biohazards – bacteria and fungi, used sharps• Performing gel electrophoresis, PCR, and UV imaging • Trained in lab and hazmat Safety practices
