I am interested in foreign affairs, journalism, non-profit work, and public policy. I desire to make an impact in any industry, giving a voice to the voiceless.I have my sights set on being a diplomat. I interned remotely with the U.S. State Department for U.S. Embassy Banjul, assisting the Public Affairs Section at the U.S. Embassy in Banjul, The Gambia, helping them run a campaign to encourage compliance with COVID-19 prevention. I also Designed branded graphics for social media campaigns and created campaign posters and flyers to deliver to schools. I led two Zoom forums about women in government and applying for U.S. grants. I was the co-editor-in-chief for the BYU–Hawaii newspaper, the Ke Alaka’i. BYUH is one of the most culturally diverse schools in the U.S, and with my role as co-editor-in-chief, I lead 15 writers and artists to publish a comprehensive and accurate monthly magazine, even with COVID-19 restrictions. My experience at Ke Alaka’i will help me with future employment because I know how to offer constructive criticism, work with individuals with different cultural backgrounds, and effectively manage my time. Furthermore, my educational experience makes me a strong candidate for any position. Through the political science program at BYUH, I conducted a quantitative research project on racial biases within criminal sentencing in the United States. Along with majoring in political science, through my certification in intercultural peacebuilding and international development, I learned how to connect with individuals despite different values and backgrounds. Also, I participated in mediation fieldwork, specifically mediating conflicts, where the parties had differing cultural contexts. Also, I am a leader in the Prelaw Society. After four semesters leading Prelaw meetings, networking with professionals, and coordinating service projects, I am more confident in my administrative and organizational skills. In my life, I have had to overcome internal and external conflict regarding my sexuality. Although it has been difficult, these experiences have benefitted me. I do not fear opposition, and I value hard work.
