I am a college student who is exploring the possibilities at the intersection of music and computer science.Synthesizers are a relatively recent development on the scale of music history, and their greater flexibility in generating arbitrary frequencies facilitates the use of novel and exotic tuning systems, the likes of which would be difficult or impossible to use with acoustic instruments.I am investigating this avenue starting with a modified version of Kunquat, an open-source composition software. The fork uses the preexisting system of operators to enable the use of Freestyle Just Intonation, a tuning system that is unwieldy for acoustic instruments.Beyond this I continue to hone my skills in computer science and music theory at the University of Rochester with courses like Signals and Systems and Audio Software Design II.
