Contracted Budget AdministrationA new task I have assumed as of late is being a contracted budget administrator. Budgeting is, for some companies, a once-a-year endeavor (some say ordeal). Instead of dedicating in-house staff, a client of mine asked that I run their budget process. It worked out really well. I did everything remotely via email, telephone and remote desktop or using GoToMeeting. They did not have to worry about the software. They just gave me budget requirements and deadlines. I worked as a software consultant with Microsoft since I was hired by Great Plains in March 2001 - Microsoft bought Great Plains the following week (good timing, huh). My time there was spent implementing Enterprise Reporting, FRx Financial Reporting, Forecaster and PerformancePoint Server Planning. I assisted clients with the installation and configuration of these software applications. I also led training classes for clients on utilizing these applications for financial reporting and budgeting.

I was responsible for the valuation of all public utility property within the state of Alabama and for collection and distribution of property tax revenue resulting from those valuations. Utilities included all airlines, electric power generating and distribution companies, telecommunications, gas distribution, cable companies and railroad/railcar companies.
