Early in my career I developed a linguistic theory that infants learning to speak are born with an innate knowledge of communication. They continue to develop communication skills based on their surrounding environment. I published my work “The Logical Structure of Linguistic Theory” to support my theory in 1975. I am a respected and valued member of the psychology community because I introduced the study of linguistics to psychology. I then connected linguistics to cognitive psychology. Cognitive Psychology is the study how people think and how the brain processes information. I choose to share my psychological research with others to advance the work of speech pathologists and parents guiding their children from their first words onward.Interests: History-My love for reading began as a young child. Learning about ancient stories of the Roman Empire, the Egyptians, and the birth of the Americas entertained me for hours. I still have a strong passion for learning about the past and how modern society came to be.Speech-My interest in speech began in college at the University of Pennsylvania. I had considered dropping out of college until my linguistics professor introduced me to speech. Since then, I have researched and developed theories about early speech. I hope to continue my career helping speech pathologists or teaching others about it.Judaism-I grew up in a Jewish family in Philadelphia. Because of my passion for history, I am also interested in the studies of Jewish religion. Growing up, religion was a central part of my childhood and I therefore enjoy educating myself and others about traditions and scripture.- Because of my background in psychology, I hope to become an anthropologist or a professor of history at a university. Anthropology has always been an interest of mine since studying the effects of the human brain on an infant’s ability to communicate. Reading and learning about various histories for sixty years has influenced me to teach younger generations about the importance of learning about the past and passing on important stories.-I hope that my impact on psychology has been a positive one and my research has benefitted speech pathologists working to help young people improve their speech. I hope that my research provided insight into how our brains work to communicate.
