This includes obtaining intellectual property protection for their technologies and facilitating technology transactions. I strategically counsel my clients on obtaining patent protection for their innovations and strategies for bringing products to market with or without patent protection, and on brand protection. I also help my clients understand their competitive intellectual property landscape, whether that involves clearance of their product relative to competitor IP or identifying potential infringers of my clients’ IP. My engineering background helps me identify and understand nuances in my clients’ technologies, which allows me to tailor my advice to meet the situation. I am a business partner to my clients, and I work closely with them to do what makes strategic sense based on the situation and desired outcome.My business-minded approach also allows me to counsel clients on all kinds of licensing and contractual issues - from typical confidentiality agreements to cross-border transactions. As a strategic advisor, I facilitate client strategies by drafting and negotiating different technology transactions, including patent, trademark, and software licensing agreements, software development agreements, data-sharing agreements, SaaS agreements, master services agreements, merger and acquisition agreements, collaborative technology transfer agreements (between businesses or involving a university), collaborative and sponsored research agreements, and joint development agreements. In addition to being a strategic advisor, I advocate for Alzheimer's disease research and awareness of educational programs that inform the public about the benefits a healthy lifestyle has on the mind. Alzheimer's is a serious, debilitating disease, and supporting scientific research of the disease is a significant focus in my life. And in this era of treatment, especially for those who have early-stage symptoms, it is vitally important that people are aware of their options. And I help to make that possible, including through my position as Secretary on the Board of Directors for the Alzheimer’s Association – WI Chapter and my membership in the Legal Industry Leadership Council (LILC).
