For two years I worked in a large school in rural Ulsan. I was one of three native speaking teachers. My duties were quite similar to my work at Bell's, however our team was larger and included other nationalities.

For over two years I helped people protect their jobs during times of illness. As a leave specialist I managed an FMLA caseload of over 300 employees in different industries. Working with Unum gave me a great insight into corporate organization. From the moment an employee requested an FMLA claim be set up I began sending paperwork to inform them of their rights and responsibilities, and also to expedite the evaluation of their claim. I maintained regular contact with employees through mail correspondence and regular phone calls. Due to the chronic nature of some conditions, I worked with some employees for the entire time I worked there. The claims were requested on behalf of their direct human resources managers, and I had genial relationships with generalists around the country. I have worked internally on projects to update human resource emails for automation and to simplify correspondence with employee’s and to update correspondence to employee’s regarding their rights under the FMLA the Americans with Disabilities Act. This project required I work with our legal counsel, our IT team in Ireland, and the Vice President of our department.

Gangdong-Gu, Seoul, Korea

The English Prep Academy was a full-time kindergarten and academy in downtown Seoul. This was the largest school I worked with in my time as an educator. We had students from Canada, the United States, England, and South Africa. I was the lead teacher due to my previous experience. Because of my position I led the native speakers department and received little support from the Korean teachers. I had a lot of control over the curriculum and ensured that the classes went above and beyond state standards for their grade.

Ulju-Gun, Ulsan, Korea

This was my first experience as an ESL teacher. The school was very rural. There were no other English speakers in the town when I arrived. I adapted quickly to my new circumstances and thrived. In the morning I taught each class in a large kindergarten in the country and in the afternoons I taught at a private academy. When I arrived I had no teaching experience or education in pedagogy. During my last few months my classes had become so popular that the local public schools were sending Korean teachers in to my classes to observe my style. I was the first native speaker this school had ever employed. The positive experience I created led to them hiring two more native speakers and using my curriculum when I left.

In 2008 I earned a Bachelor’s degree in history from Tennessee Tech. As a research assistant to the department I utilized online databases to collect primary sources. Aside from assisting in administrative and clerical duties with the department I also worked on projects that involved reviewed census data collected in Mississippi from the late 19th to the early 20th century to follow Choctaw families as they moved throughout the state. I also reviewed the journals and letters of Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War to evaluate shifting religious positions as the war progressed.
