In my role as Director of BFI Future Film Festival I programme and manage regular monthly film industry focused events for emerging young filmmakers, identifying their skills needs and tapping into their aspirations. Every year this work culminates in the BFI Future Film Festival, which consists of more than sixty separate industry master classes, practical workshops, screenings, Q+A’s and networking opportunities, and brings in hundreds of new emerging filmmakers to the BFI Southbank over an extended weekend.I have been instrumental in the strategic development of Doc Next, a pan-European documentary filmmaking training programme for young people; the implementation of a £3 ticket offer at BFI Southbank for young people; and helped shape and develop the BFI Film Academy - a UK wide talent development programme for 16-19 year olds. Based at Watershed Media Centre this role also encompassed supporting the audience development strategy for Watershed as eShed Project Manager, where I delivered a diverse range of screenings and workshops to large groups of young people, and researched and wrote content for eShed.net to enable young people to find out about film and media opportunities available to them.
