PhD Project: To investigate the effectiveness of different astaxanthin sources (i.e.; the shrimp Plesionika sp. rich in this carotenoid, the algae Haematococcus pluvialis, NatuRose™ and the synthesized formulated astaxanthin ,Carophyll® Pink 10% CWS, DSM Nutritional Products Ltd) in different dietary concentrations, and different doses of cantaxanthin, to appropriately develop a natural pigmentation of the red porgy skin. Astaxanthin exhibits essential biological functions including protection against oxidation of essential polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and protection against UV light effects. Given the important role of PUFA in marine fish nutrition, another purpose of the my work was to investigate how dietary astaxanthin contributed to prevent tissue lipid peroxidation and how affected the lipid composition.Publications Universidad de La Laguna-Instituto Español de Oceanografía-> 2003.
