I presently serve as Director of Legal Services at Nueva Luz Urban Resource Center. We provide legal services for low-income clients that are living with HIV or AIDS. Nueva Luz is the only such provider in the Cleveland area, and our legal team is dedicated to providing top-notch legal services for our clients and to expanding access to our services to the broader community living with this disease. I assumed directorial responsibilities in the summer of 2 serving as staff attorney at the agency for two years. Prior to my employment at Nueva Luz I was Public Policy Officer at the Ohio Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs, where I served as the Commission's lobbyist. I monitored state and federal legislation and worked with community leaders and advocates to identify bills and administrative provisions that were important to Ohio Hispanics and work toward or against their passage according to the community's interests. I also kept the community informed about the goings-on in Columbus, and worked to expand and strengthen Ohio Hispanics' political acumen and capacities for civic engagement.I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 2005. While at Miami I was active in student government and even won a campus-wide election. I also completed minor courses of study in history, Spanish, and Latin American studies. I went on to law school at the University of Toledo College of Law, and earned my Juris Doctor in 2009. I passed the Ohio bar examination, and was sworn in as an attorney in November of the same year.
