After becoming a full-time graduate student, I took on a number of part-time opportunities at Prelude. In my capacity as a Prevention Educator, I deliver educational presentations to groups of 12 to 15 community members 6 to 8 times per year. As a Recovery Assistant, I facilitate groups, manage conflicts, and handle day-to-day operations in a 24-hour residential treatment facility. As an Evaluator, I interview, assess, and complete treatment referrals for individuals with substance-related legal charges.

As Prelude's only case manager, I oversaw case management needs for 30+ patients per month. I provided intensive services to families participating in Prelude's Transitional Housing program, including health needs assessments, substance abuse treatment planning, job skills coaching, and budgeting support. During my time as case manager, occupancy rate for this program doubled. I also worked with an interdisciplinary team including representatives from the Department of Human Services and the Johnson County Attorney's Office to design individualized treatment plans for families participating in Johnson County Family Drug Treatment Court.As administrator of the Access to Recovery Grant, I was responsible for conducting outreach to clients with substance abuse issues and for maintaining public health data and client financial vouchers in accordance with Iowa Department of Public Health standards. My focus on increasing follow-up rates resulted in Prelude receiving a financial incentive award from the state.My other responsibilities as case manager included leading daily treatment groups for patients in Prelude's residential and outpatient services, and delivering monthly prevention education presentations to community members.

On election night itself, I was responsible for ensuring that the election reporting teams were in place and that they entered vote count data as quickly as possible into Reuters' national database.

My main focus as an intern at Kayan was to develop Kayan's relationship with existing and potential donors. I reviewed worldwide feminist foundations and created a database of past and potential donors. This process generated new possibilities for funding, and I assisted in authoring subsequent proposals.I also received and interpreted data about program outcomes. I learned to present this data both as official written reports to donors, and as brief and eye-catching social media updates. My final project was to compile information and generate the layout for Annual Report 2012.
