In my role in the Office of Public Health Practice (OPHP), I focus on increasing opportunities for students, staff, and faculty to engage in public health practice activities, including broadening efforts for collaboration with community partners (local, national, and global). OPHP oversees our Applied Practice Experience (APEx) Program, the 400-hour internship requirement of our MPH students, and provides support for our faculty APEx Directors. I also act as a liaison across departments and offices to drive improvement of internal processes and to elevate and expand all of the incredible work of our community.

As the Assistant Director in the Career & Professional Development Office, I advised ~800 MPH, MS, MHA, and PhD students from five departments (Biostatistics, Community Health Sciences, Environmental Health Sciences, Epidemiology, and Health Policy & Management) as well as 11,000+ alumni.In addition to 1:1 and small group counseling sessions, I developed and taught professional development workshops on topics including resume and cover letter writing, networking, LinkedIn, interviewing, and negotiation. I guest lectured on topics including motivational interviewing, organizational development, and strengths-based leadership, and wrote curriculum for our mandatory "Public Health as a Profession" course. To facilitate employer- and alumni-student relations, I regularly organized lunch & learns, informational interviewing opportunities, and large-scale networking events, totaling over 50 events per academic year.I led the transition of our office in spring 2020 to its now hybrid format and was a lead presenter for the COVID-19 Virtual Training Academy. In collaboration with UCLA/UCSF and the California Department of Public Health, I helped to train 10,000+ government employees to become contact tracers through workshops in contact tracing interview skills, rapport-building, health coaching, and navigating challenging situations. I also led train-the-trainer courses for Colombia, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, and Armenia to assist in the creation of their contact tracing and case investigation initiatives as well as facilitated for the University of Guam's program.Other programs I held leadership roles in included the UCLA Public Health Scholars Training Program, California Public Health Corps Training and Pathways Program, FSPH Student Ambassador Program, and FSPH Alumni-Student Mentorship Program.

My transition from K-12 to higher education led me to a hybrid academic and career advising position at Tulane University. I evaluated and maintained student academic and career profiles for a caseload of 315 undergraduate students. Through daily analysis of Salesforce dashboards, I prioritized outreach to different populations of students and conducted up to 10, 30-minute appointments per day. As part of the Exploratory Advising Team, I embraced a variety of advising frameworks including motivational interviewing and appreciative advising to support my diverse caseload of students.

With a caseload of 57 K-8 English-language learners (ELLs), I instructed and managed their language progression through pull-out services and regularly adapted my schedule to maximize teaching hours guided by progress monitoring. To meet the need of our increasing ELL population, I onboarded and trained a permanent ESL volunteer and collaborated with classroom teachers to provide appropriate supports for success in their regular classrooms.

As a Kindergarten Teacher, I created and implemented daily lesson plans for classes of up to 34 students in lead, parallel, and small group teaching within an extended school day program. I crafted qualitative and quantitative data-tracking methods and formed short-and long-term goals to differentiate instruction and drive academic and emotional development.

I was selected as one of 5,300 accepted candidates out of more than 50,000 applicants (~10% acceptance rate) to join the Teach for America 2014 Corps. Corp members commit to teaching for two-years in a low-income community, and as a network with over 50 urban and rural regions, corps members and over 55,000 alumni continue to fight educational inequity and expand opportunities for all. I completed an 8-week summer training in Atlanta, Georgia, where I taught summer school for a third grade glass. My 2-year placement was in New Orleans, Louisiana, where I taught kindergarten at Arthur Ashe Charter School. I then continued working in the same school district at Phillis Wheatley Community School, a K-8 school, as the English as a Second Language Teacher.

As a Research Assistant, I conducted language, memory, and vocabulary experiments for 4-and 6-year-old participants and analyzed corresponding data. I also developed stimuli used in studies of language acquisition through behavioral and psychophysiological approaches (EEG, fMRI, and eye tracking).
