As a Senior Advisor and member of the leadership team of the Office of the Coordinator for Afghan Relocation Efforts (SCA/CARE), report directly to the Coordinator for Afghan Relocation Efforts. In this cross-cutting role, coordinate, develop, manage and implement a wide range of policies central to the work done by SCA/CARE, both in functional and regional arenas. Responsible for: • Ensuring CARE addresses the gender-specific barriers faced by Afghan women and girls in the Operation Enduring Welcome (OEW) pipeline. • Supporting Afghan women’s and girls’ safety on their immigration journey and helping them access opportunities to prepare for life in the U.S. • Coordinating with other parts of the State Department and the interagency to support Afghan women and girls in OEW. • Briefing members of Congress and civil society on CARE’s work related to Afghan women and girls. Represent the State Department with external stakeholders. • Oversee case management for special cases and groups. • Harness gender data for decision-making on priorities and operations.

Seconded to Global Policy, Advocacy, and Campaigns team to do research and policy development to shape Save the Children’s global strategy and direction through 2030. • Served as a subject matter expert on locally led development to shape the global vision for locally-led development, a cornerstone of the global strategic plan. • Conducted global power-mapping on shifting nature of power at the global and regional levels to inform Save the Children’s advocacy strategy, capacity, and global footprint through 2030. • Conducted research on violence against girls, including online, as part of scoping of the next global campaign.

Responsible for leading policy and advocacy portfolio that includes international affairs budget and appropriations, education, global health, food security, girls’ empowerment, financing, aid effectiveness, and governance. Cochaired global campaign on gender equality in 20+ countries and advocacy hubs, including the UN, AU, and Geneva. The more than 25 policy or political wins include changing the law to end child marriage in Malawi; overturning the ban on pregnant girls attending school in Sierra Leone; winning a Supreme Court case in Mexico to uphold laws against child marriage; and partnering with the Ethiopian government to develop a national plan to end child marriage and FGM.
