Each year the EHP convenes a diverse group of 60 young professionals representing all healthcare sectors. Participants work together for six months to develop policy recommendations that address today’s most pressing European health issues, which are picked in cooperation with the European Commission. EHP participants are selected for their contribution to and potential to lead in European health policy and come from a range of educational and occupational backgrounds.As an elected chair of the EHP7 Future-Proofing Health Systems Committee, I have been in charge of:- Leading a team of 12 young health leaders to deliver policy recommendations- Managing the entire project (timelines, deliverables, meeting preparation and chairing, encouraging member participation)- Connecting with key stakeholders and decision-makers to enlist their input and support, establish high-impact collaborations and stimulate dissemination of the recommendations- Representing the Committee externally as speaker at high-impact public policy events- Liaising with Chairs of the other four EHP7 Committees to look for synergies- Acting as spokesperson for the Committee towards the EHP partners and taking part in the EHP7 Steering Committee- Taking an active role in promoting the EHP with ideas and feedback Show less

Dr. Marc Dalod’s laboratory studies dendritic cells, which are a crucial component of the immune system, aiming in particular at deciphering their heterogeneity across species and the role of dendritic cell subsets during viral infection.My work focused on the molecular and genomic characterization of human dendritic cell subsets during in vitro differentiation. To this aim, I was in charge of setting up a bioinformatics method for the analysis of single-cell genomics (RNAseq) data, through R programmingI subsequently used this method to successfully analyze several datasets generated in the laboratory and was a coauthor of a scientific article using this data, to the writing of which I contributed (Balan et al. Cell Reports 2018).I also took part in experiments aiming at understanding the fate and functions of monocyte-derived cells during viral infection in vivo, which involved animal experimentation, in vitro cell culture and multiparametric flow cytometry. Dr. Olivier Schwartz’s laboratory aims at better understanding the replication of several viruses of public health relevance, including HIV, Chikungunya and Zika viruses, in particular cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying their interaction with immune defenses of the host.My work consisted in investigating the role played by two human nuclear proteins in intrinsic mechanisms regulating HIV-1 replication inside infected cells, through their interactions with viral accessory proteins.I took part in the design of experiments and carried out them in autonomy, including in vitro culture of cell lines and human blood-derived cells, production of viral variants through transfection, shRNA-mediated silencing through lentiviral transduction, in vitro viral infection and flow cytometry. I took charge of the analysis of the obtained results and was a coauthor of a scientific article using this data, to the writing of which I contributed (Donahue et al. Journal of virology 2017).
