From January until October 2012 I've done several project management related activities. This varied from assisting senior project managers to managing a project from beginning to end. During this period I've worked on projects in The Netherlands, Belgium, France and Kazakhstan.From October 2012 until October 2013 I assisted the Mammoet Global Operations department. This department controls the 50 larges pieces of equipment all over the world. My manager was the department director and I was privileged to support him. My tasks varied from, for example, overseeing complex shipments all over the world, the global crane schedule, researching new techniques (GPS, RFID, apps, project management tools) and assisting senior project managers in their legal affairs. When my manager was on vacation, I needed to be in control of the department's ongoing activities. One day a week I spent on paper work: invoicing, scheduling, internal contracts and reporting to the Board of Management.From October 2013 until May 2014 I spend my time on improvement plans. I was asked by our CFO to take place in a committee to oversee and steer all improvement plan all over the world. Our goal was to have one global main improvement plan per department. I was asked to create templates for the improvement plans as well as for the supporting documents. I created templates for scope analyses, user stories, requirement analyses, budget, road map, risks assessments and the overall business case. Together with a team member we also created a SCRUM based workshops to use the templates. I assisted other departments in using the templates and workshops.My second main task was to create the worldwide improvement plan for the global operations department. I created it by doing the analyses and discussing the outcomes with several key employees within global operations. Our COO approved the plan and instated it as the overall improvement plan for 2014-2016.

My thesis was formed around the logistics of the worlds largest heave lift cranes. The first part of the thesis was to identify the challenges and the second part was to define a solution to the most urgent challenges. I looked into subset determination, the information support system and packing algorithms. The research that I did on these subject lead to several cost and time saving solutions while lowering the risk for error during operations. Almost all my recommendations have been executed by Mammoet.

The one thing that I learned most from this part-time job is how a clearly structure company and its organization can be beneficial to the efficiency and quality of the output that company. It does take a certain attitude from its employees. You have to be able to do the same thing(s) the same way for a relatively long period of time as change is not common.My focus in this job was on being efficient, fast and faultless and at the same time as friendly to customers as possible without losing the required authority.

Working is the Crazy Piano's is never dull! It is arguably the most entertaining bar in all of Holland. For bartender there were roughly two types of situations: extremely busy or extremely quiet. During the busy period I tried to be fast, accurate, entertaining and customer driven. During the quiet periods I cleaned the bar inside and outside first before stocking it for the next rush.The main thing I took from is job is to work hard without complaining, always look for a solution to satisfy the customer and to look for the upside in bad situation.

Logging in, disabling the answering machine, getting coffee and off we go! My main target was to help employees with simple problems or direct them to the right department for complicated problems.The thing I took from this job is that a lot of the time people don't know their actual problem. You have to listen and ask questions to be able to determine their real problem. Only then you will be able to come up with a feasible solution that takes care of the problem in stead of disguising the symptoms.
