I am a science enthusiast intrigued by life sciences and biotechnology. My expertise includes liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), next generation sequencing (NGS), NGS and proteomic data analysis and interpretation, PCR, qPCR, light and electron microscopy (TEM), Sanger sequencing, biochemical assays, molecular cloning, keratinocytes culturing, environmental toxicology, hematological and biochemical analyses, biochemical pathway analyses, scientific writing and reporting, statistical analysis (including ANOVA, clustering, regression, correlation) using command line and GUI biostatistics software i.e. R, SPSS, Graphpad Prism and Origin. I also consider myself adept at operating other software, be it NGS, proteomic or general data analysis, visualization &/or presentation. My fascination with life sciences led me into one of the key technologies of 21st century, Biotechnology. Studying and working as a biotechnologist and molecular biologist, first in the top institute of Pakistan (Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad) and now at the prestigious University of California Davis, I have availed plenty of opportunities to work on cutting-edge tools of the field. During my PhD, I identified the causative genetic factors for several inherited diseases using Whole Exome Sequencing (NGS; Illumina HiSeq4000) and targeted gene sequencing. The fact that my current lab works on a wide range of ideas attracted me here to UC Davis. My project designing and execution skills along with the facilities and mentorship available in my current lab helped me increase my bandwidth. I work on diverse projects, ranging in themes from cell culturing to molecular cloning, genetics, proteomics and electron microscopy. Employing mass spectrometry we have identified the proteome of normal epidermis as well as the disturbances in afflicted epidermises arising from genetic mutations or chemical toxicological exposures. We have also executed studies to discover genetically variant peptides in hair and epidermal proteomes and evaluate the utility of the inferred genotypes for forensic identification purposes. I am hard working, detail oriented and objective minded which helps me solve problems creatively and in an unbiased manner. I work independently as well as in groups and interact frequently with the scientific community (in workshops & seminars) and public (during sample collection) which has allowed me to develop a broad perspective while expanding my networking and communication skills.
