Responsible for the management and maintenance of the 115 lakes spread across Kiawah Island. The lake system totaled approximately 350 acres of water surface area with a shoreline of nearly 47 miles. The activities associated with this management included weekly inspections of the lake system and water quality monitoring, performing lake edge maintenance, establishing beneficial shoreline vegetation, and conducting various methods of erosion control. It also involved fish stocking and nuisance aquatic plant control, maintenance of an extensive database of lake and GIS information, biannual testing of coliform levels and annual analysis of fish and aquatic animal tissue samples for contaminants, and monthly inspection and maintenance of water control structures. Additionally, performed annual mapping of bottom contours for 20% of the lakes.Responsible for mosquito abatement for Kiawah Island and these activities involved weekly monitoring and evaluation of mosquito populations in each of the 30 zones, ground-based larviciding of areas of mapped standing water island-wide, truck-mounted spraying for adult mosquitoes when monitoring indicated, and coordination of aerial larviciding and adulticiding with Charleston County Mosquito Control when needed.Supervised a staff of 6 and managed an annual budget of $500,000. Conducted numerous reserve projects such as lake dredging, water control structure replacement, pipe repair and installation, and diving inspections totaling over $2 million.
