About Norman Sergeant

With over 50 years of experience in the zOS mainframe platform, in May 2021, I was promoted to the position of a Scotiabank Mainframe Site Resiliency Engineer at Kyndryl, a new company that delivers IT services and solutions to global clients. My mission was to ensure the efficiency, security, and reliability of the mainframe applications and systems that support Scotiabank's operations and services. At Kyndryl, I leveraged my extensive knowledge and skills in COBOL, SQL, Excel, C++, Assembler, and AIX to conduct performance and resiliency assessments of the client's JCL, COBOL, and DB2 code, as well as their batch, TSO, IMS, and CICS regions. I also developed and implemented solutions to improve the performance, availability, and scalability of the mainframe environment, such as automating and emailing reports, creating user-friendly interfaces, and reviewing and extracting critical security information. In addition, I collaborated with the client and other Kyndryl teams to certify and sign off new releases of various software products and operating systems, and to provide support for workload management and monitoring tools. I am passionate about delivering high-quality and innovative solutions that meet the client's needs and expectations. In March 2023, due to financial constraints at Kyndryl, my Canadian position was eliminated, in favour of Brazil support team, and I was terminated from Kyndryl in June 2023. For the next 6 months I was out looking for opportunities that would utilise my System Programming background,. --------------Most Recent Employment ------------------------------------------------------In January 2024, I started work as a contractor with Quantum World Technologies, supporting Canada Life account of HCL Technologies as a member of the Mainframe Software Support team, until my contract was abruptly cancelled by Canada life, as of February 28, 2024, also due to client financial constraints.--------------------- Going Forward --------------------------------------------------------Being an experienced professional, I am now looking for new opportunities to continue contributing my skills and experience, as well as continuing to learn and share new concepts in the digital data processing area.

Zos System Programmer Consultant

Hcl Technologies Canada

Participated in Daily Team meetings that reviewed incidents, project roadmaps and status, along with status of changes, including status of access to mainframes. It was a good learning experience for myself, and this was a client supporting multiple data centres as result of corporate takeovers in the past. The contraxt only lasted 2 months, just long enough to finally overcome various issues that I had encountered with access. While waiting for my access, I spent time doing research on BMC File-Aid software, and developed a plan to do the upgrade to a more current level that supports zOS 2.5 and zOS 3.1 releases. The actual implementation work was about to start when the contract was cancelled by the client, due to some financial issues.
