Lead Application Developer / Architect

Nashville, Tennessee, Us

* Served in the lead technical role for VUMC’s clinical alerting and communications systems. Inherited a legacy monolithic in-house developed closed loop system for alerting on critical lab results and radiology studies. * Planned, architected, and implemented changes to integrate our alerting system with Epic’s EHR and Mobile Heartbeat’s MH-Cure platform.* Defined the vision, plan, and architecture to replace our original alerting and communications systems with a loosely coupled, distributed platform that would enable VUMC to quickly implement and deploy new types of alerts and route those alerts to the appropriate clinicians or external systems. * Working with a small team (a Product Manager, Technical Lead, two Developers, and a QA tester), was able to go from ideation in early 2019 to a production platform a year later. In 2022 this platform created and routed over 1 million alerts, delivered over 4 million messages, and expanded our alerting capabilities to include, among others, detection of a pulmonary emboli, positive blood cultures in the transplant population, positive covid-19 results, pneumonia in the pediatric population, meningitis, negative troponin level trends, and thromboelastography results. * Contributed to VUMC’s covid-19 response by building applications for managing vaccination sites and scheduling as well as the implementation of alerts for all positive covid-19 results. This was accomplished while also delivering key components of our new alerts and communications platform.
