Norman E. Hill, FSA, MAAA, Member AICPA, is a frequent speaker and facilitator for the life and health insurance industry. He is well known for his articles on a broad range of insurance industry issues.Norm’s expertise includes strategic, financial, and regulatory planning, along with a wide variety of special projects. His experience covers both large and small insurers. He has been a partner with 2 of the Big 4 accounting firms, as well as Chief Actuary and CFO of a large insurance holding company, and Executive V.P. and Chief Actuary for a smaller insurance company. Norm is currently active in several industry and actuarial committees as well as a member of the National Alliance of Life Companies. Starting in 2005, Norm has been actively involved in following development of Principle Based Reserves (PBR) for the life insurance industry, and, for this topic, has served on several advisory committees to and testifying in front of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and the National Coalition of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL). Norm is interested in receiving long term and short term actuarial consulting engagements and serving on Boards of Directors of life and health companies or firms who want board representation with sound management practices.In addition, Norm is working on behalf of the following;1. A subgroup of the Small Company Council of the Society of Actuaries that is preparing PBR implementation advice for small life and health insurers.2. Chairman of the Actuarial Committee of the National Alliance of Life Companies, a small life and health insurer trade association.In recent years, Norm has expanded on his business writing: He is the author of "Winner and Final Chairman", a fictionalized story of a corporate power struggle, and writes for Small Talk. Currently working on:A committee of the American Academy of Actuaries that is preparing a Practice Note for the actuarial profession on implementing PBR.But Norm has served on many AA committees in the past.

Kanawha Insurance Company September 1991 to September 2006.My responsibilities included product pricing, projections on several different accounting bases, computation of primary financial statement liabilities and negotiating wording and allowances for reinsurance contracts. I served on the Board of Directors, Product Development Committee, and Investment Committee. I managed the Actuarial Department.
