They had landed a rather large project to create an encryption practice for one of their customers and were looking for a principal architect to anchor the contract, grow the business.It's not every day you get to create a program from scratch. They presented me a golden opportunity to build a team from the bottom up, implementing security best practices involving the entire Thales portfolio of encryption products. This was a huge project for a willing customer with ample funding to get the job done in short order. It didn't take me long to sign my name on the line and get started.The project primarily involves an EKMS cloud solution for VMWare. We got a standing POC approved by January of this year and procured all the necessary logistical assets to begin rolling-out a solution across hundreds of sites by April. Already, we expect to begin encrypting data by October, well ahead of our roll-out completion milestones due this December. While KMS is a primary implementation, we expect to also implement a mixture of CTE and TDE solutions at the same time. This is a motivated customer with an well-oiled delivery and support staff already in place. They are providing top-notch project management and have proven excellent partners and collaborators in managing all aspects of this project. As the chief resident, I oversee a crew of two engineers and a pair of PMO officers. The customer has provided us unfettered access to network, storage and compute resources to further develop and stage this project through all phases of the deployment. This is an example of government operating at 110% capacity: lean, flexible and thoroughly competent.I walked into a fantastic project for the perfect customer.
