I was introduced to taijiquan by Master Instructor Lynne Cove @ North Shore Neighbourhood House and then, at the same time as training with Master Lynne, I started training with Grand Master Shou-Yu Liang, Master Helen Liang, & Master Chenhan Yang, at the Shou-yu Liang Taiji, Wushu and Qigong Institute. I have studied with Master Cui, Master Sam Masich, Master Ken Low, Master Kelly, various Masters from the Chinese Health Qigong Association, Dr. Yang Jwing Ming and Kathy Yang. I am a huge fan of Master Tsao of San Diego, Michael Gilman of Port Townsend and David-Dorian Ross. At the start of my martial arts teaching career, I volunteered as an instructor and assisted Lynne Cove with her classes at the North Shore Neighbourhood House and John Braithwaite Community Centre. I was then officially invited to assist Lynne with her Tai Chi and Qigong classes at both locations in Lower Lonsdale, North Vancouver. In 2008 Grand Master Shou-Yu Liang, Master Helen Liang, Master Chenhan Yang, and Master Instructor, Lynne Cove, gave me permission to teach independently. That was a great honour. To me that meant I was ready to dig even deeper into the ancient practice of taijiquan. I now train and teach at a number of North Shore locations: The Gym at the Highlands United Church, the North Shore Neighbourhood House, John Braithwaite, The Squamish First Nation Elders, Lions Bay Rec Centre. At Highlands United Church we teach on Wed evenings from 5pm-7pm, 4 classes on Saturday mornings:, 8:45am, 9:45am, 10:15am and 11:15am. At the North Shore Neighbourhood House: Tues & Thurs mornings at 8:30am for intermediate and advanced, and at 9am for beginners, Thurs Nights at 7:30pm, Tuesdays in Lions Bay and Thursdays at the Chief Joe Mathias Centre. I am the Lead Instructor with the North Shore Tai Chi Spirit & Chinese Health Qigong Martial Arts School located out of Highlands United Church Gym in Edgemont Village. I also teach at the North Shore Neighbourhood House & John Braithwaite Community Centre, and the Squamish Nation Elders (at the Chief John Mathias Centre). I teach students in both taijiquan & qigong forms. I teach also Fusion Classes, as well as part of my classes are dedicated to TaijiFit. The Taijiquan forms taught mainly yang style (5 section, 24 form, 108) but we also teach and practice forms that combine yang, chen, wu and sun style taijiquan (42 form, 48 form). In addition, a small group of us practice Liuhebafa (Water Style) and Wu Style. We also practice sword (32 form, 42 form and 51 form), fan and push hands. The Qigong forms we teach are many and varied: Yi Jin Jing, Baduan Jin (Eight Pieces of Silk & Brocade), Wu Qin Xi (5 animals), Qigong on Wei Lei Mountain, Swimming Dragon, Balancing the Heart, Standing Meditation, Rejuvenating Face Qigong, 5 elements, and various medical qigong movements.I am current training in Taijiquan Sword, Baji, Xiao Yao, Lui He Ba Fa, and other yang style forms, Daoist Qigong, Medical Qigong, Chinese Health Qigong.

Josie was the Chief Campaign Strategist and Planner with and for Shervin Shahriari's political campaign in a bid to be elected for North Vancouver City Council, October 15th 2022. Josie worked with an amazing team of Volunteers who all pulled together to help get Shervin Shahriari elected. Shahriari is the first Iranian-born Canadian to be elected to government in British Columbia.

Owned and operated Sun-Gold from 1985 with partner until 1992. Independantly owned from 1992-2001, then sold all businesses. Sun-Gold operated in a number of areas: 1) Special Events; Organized special events for corporate clients and schools throughout the Lower Mainland. Parties as small at 15 and up to 2000 people. Established Action Games & Casinos Inc. with partner and organized funny-money casinos for parties and fund-raisers with full-size casino equipment. Also provided entertainment, such as magicians, jugglers, musicians, etc. 2) Promotional Advertising; We provided custom-designed apparel and logoed products for corporations, special events, schools and teams. 3) The Amusement Business; We sold products throughout Canada at major fairs and festivals, such as the Pacific National Exhibition, Calgary Stampede, Edmonton Klondike Days, Canadian National Exhibition, Cloverdale Rodeo and others. Created retail concepts:- "The Red Dragon Tattoo Parlour", the "temporary tattoo" parlour. Worked at Major fairs and festivals, private parties, schools. Created custom-artwork for the Film Industry and worked on major films providing customized make-up artistry for temporary tattoos. Worked for Advertising Agencies. - "Fantasy Faces - United by Colour", a facepainting operation. - Had the exclusive contract for all novelties and souvenirs at Playland Amusement Park for approximately 8 years.

In my youth, I swam competitively for over 12 years. During that time, from ages 8 - 12, I was a Canadian, American and British Record Holder in Swimming, specifically breastroke, the IM (Individual Medley), and freestyle. At the same time I participated in many school sports: gymnastics, volleyball, basketball, swimming, and tennis. I love team sports as well as individual participation, but it was swimming competitively that helped create a no-quit, no-fear attitude and drive to be the best that I could be. I was award the Athlete of the Year in Grade 12. As a 20-something adult, I competed in a number of triathlons for the experience and joy of training in swimming, running and cycling. I have always been interested in martial arts, from a distance. As a child, I remember it quite clearly. As an adult I decided to take a closer look and have found a passion for this deep, gentle, martial art and chinese health qigong.
