Someone says “yachting” and your mind travels on beautiful ships moored in serene environment, blue water, green coast line and happy people enjoying themselves. And it is all of the above, after delivery.My role is played up to the hand over, from the initial features, while spaces and systems are being engineered and working with production to ensure that it goes as planned, or at least the result is what has been envisaged. It is a custom, eclectic market requiring strong technical background and high aesthetics, an industry demanding ingenuity and a field that you never get bored.I’ve started as a junior naval architect preparing cargo securing manuals and carrying out emergency response services. But then I got lucky as the consultancy I was working for, enter the yacht refit market and got involved in this fascinating world.Since then I am given the opportunity to work with high speed craft of 7m to megayachts of 142m. I had the first hand experience of managing to fit all elements in the smallest sizes and meeting the finite, luxury style of the highly refined clientele in the larger ones.I have been also blessed with the exposure in my native market, as well as the Middle Eastern and European ones, working with different cultures, which has added to my appreciation of multiple perspectives and versatile personalities.In this course I was forced to expand my selling capabilities, therefore went through my business studies. From them though I’ve discovered the essence of breaking through the engineering mindset, focusing on the project and the people around it.I love growth and constantly seek alternatives for more environmental practises and people with similar aspirations.
