In order to address, eliminate and prevent maltreatment in the amateur sport system, viaSport is initiating the Safe Sport campaign to leverage education and awareness as a foundation for the prevention of maltreatment. This will impact all members of the B.C. sport sector including organizational leadership (board and staff), coaches, participants (youth and adult), parents, officials, volunteers.As the Safeguarding officer, my role is to act as a • Provincial resource to support organizations to discuss safeguarding issues or concerns.• Provide advice and support to organizations regarding concerns of inappropriate behaviours.• Provide resources or referrals to relevant agencies.

The TrueSport mission is to change the culture of youth sport by providing powerful educational tools to equip young athletes with the resources to build life skills and core values for success on and off the field. My role as a True Sport Expert supports this mission by developing and creating resources to assist athletes, coaches and associations to anticipate, address and prevent conflict using social work principles and techniques.

The Forensic Practice team consists of highly skilled social workers, police officers, psychologists, and researchers who are dedicated to providing exceptional training on topics such as investigative interviewing, trauma informed interviewing, child abuse investigations, and risk assessment. The aim is to improve decision making in forensic contexts to strengthen the safety and wellness of communities.I provide training (in person and virtual) focused on how to conduct successful interviews. Our clients include provincial and territorial governments, federal and municipal police agencies, social service agencies, law firms, Crown Counsel, health care workers, insurance companies, and private corporations.

Currently I have the pleasure of facilitating training on a regular basis for both newly hired and veteran Child Welfare Social Workers employed with the Ministry of Children and Family Development. I provide in person instruction at the Justice Institute of British Columbia and more recently on line training via Zoom for learners from across the Province in addition to regular contributions to curriculum development to both learning platforms. The focus of the training includes Assessment of Child Safety, Legislation and Policy Analysis. We study social work skills such as Conflict Management, principles of Engagement and Collaboration and Interviewing Techniques. Throughout the training there is a focus on Trauma Informed, Strength Based and Culturally Safe approaches to practice. Self Care techniques are interwoven into the curriculum.

BC Artistic Swimming are a Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) who's EVOLVE initiative I support through training events and consultation. The focus on my work is assisting in the establishment of systems and development of skills to anticipate, address and prevent conflict at all levels of the organization. This is an innovative project focused on shifting the culture of artistic swimming in BC to create a healthier space for children and youth to grow up, for people to swim, work, and volunteer, and one that is collaborative, inclusive, and self-reflective. This is a ground-breaking project in Canadian sport resulting in BC Artistic Swimming and their partner, the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport, being awarded a significant Innovation grant from Sport Canada.

My role is to respond to case specific consultation requests and to develop the capability of staff across our region. I am responsible for the development and provision of training in new and innovative practice related to child welfare. I provide support for programming and service delivery to facilitate best practice. I liaise with, promote and support partnerships with other professionals, agencies and institutions. I provide clinical consultation to child protection workers, resource workers, guardianship workers, supervisors and regional managers regarding serious, complex issues of child abuse and neglect.
