Dr. A. Nicole Pfannenstiel is a student-centered educator advocating for student-centered teaching and OER adoption. Her work focuses on learning through and with technology, blending rhetorical theory, digital rhetoric and multimedia learning theory. Her work centers human experiences with and through technology as we find enjoyment, learning, and community through technology tools. Dr. Pfannenstiel currently teaches Freshmen Composition, Digital Rhetoric, and Web Writing and Content Management courses. Her classes use gamified pedagogy and play to support student development of strong writing practices (with an emphasis on transfer). Dr. Pfannenstiel has taught courses in Digital Rhetoric, Ancient Rhetoric, Videogames and Literacies, Participatory Culture and Social Media, Multimedia Design, and Big Data at both the graduate and undergraduate level, and both online and face-to-face. She regularly employs multimedia learning, Twitter, blogs, multimedia projects, and problem-based learning to help students experience, learn from, and reflect on multimedia learning with course content to feel more comfortable and gain more experience with design and writing.
