The Beery Lab studies the comparative neurobiology of sociality- neurobiological pathways that support sociality (group-living) and affiliative social behavior between peers.In the lab, I've taken on roles sectioning neural tissues on a cryostat, preparing histology slides for IHC and autoradiography assays, taking tissue samples for genotyping, administering general anesthesia, maintaining vole colonies, designing studies, and learning about regulatory affairs such as obtaining research permits and approvals. I've appreciated the opportunity to refine my scientific thought process, hone my lab techniques, design experiments, and much more.

I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to work, learn, and grow in the beauty of the White Mountains while supporting visiting scientists in many different fields of research.Responsibilities:Planned and cooked meals for staff and research teams in residence Barcroft Field Station (2-25 people), maintained off-grid station utilities (solar, water, gas, WiFi), maintained field labs, facilities, and vehicles, maintained food and supply stocks within a set budget.Conducted pilot surveys for vole species of the White Mountains, preserved salvage specimens for DNA sampling and museum collection

"The Bolinas Community Land Trust (BCLT) is a local 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to creating, preserving and sustaining long term affordable housing in Bolinas. Through outreach, tenant advocacy and property management, we strive to support a thriving, vibrant and diverse community."As an intern with the BCLT, I worked on a wide breadth of community relations, fundraising, and communications projects, as well as shadowing in nonprofit management and housing law.

"ETC makes the joy and challenge of outdoor adventures accessible to people with disabilities and under-resourced youth, inspiring self-confidence, connection to nature, and stewardship of the environment."As an ETC Youth Fellow, I trained to guide sea kayaking and rafting trips, planned trips considering tides, weather, and specific client accommodations, led groups in team building and bonding exercises, and had the opportunity to mutually work and grow with amazing people from many different unique backgrounds. My ongoing involvement with ETC continually inspires my drive to understand the perspectives of individuals and communities with whom I engage.
