Validating new drug targets and potential new drugs to regulate the protein degradation associated to the inflammation that accompanies the immune response:The focus of this research is to study how targeting the degradation of specific proteins can improve the inflammatory conditions associated to the immune repsonse.Overall, my work consists in initiating, managing and concluding high-impact research projects.• Project management: planning and coordination of the studies, guiding the projects to match the targets of the lab.• Supervision of external collaborations with known experts in the biomedical field.• Training and mentoring: providing technical and theoretical training and supervision to master students, PhD students and other research professionals.• trouble-shooting• Establishment of cross-functional works with Companies and Facilities outside the laboratory.• Writing and presenting high-impact scientific publications• Team-building
Doctoral Researcher
Fellow in Human Biology Finding novel insights into how neuro-inflammation triggers Parkinson´s disease. The focus of this research has been to find and validate new drug targets to ameliorate the inflammatory conditions that are associated with the onset of Parkinson´s and other Neurodegenerative diseases. My main tasks have been:• Discovery of targets through biochemical, molecular biological, cell biological and immunological studies (focusing on protein degradation and mitochondrial biology)• Target validation, in-vivo/in-vitro pharmacology. • Learning of advanced molecular biology, biochemical and molecular immunological techniques.• Technical training and supervision of Bachelor and Master Students.• Independent management of 3 parallel projects.• Development of new methodologies to study the progression of neuro-inflammation• Establishment of High-throughput assays• Writing high-quality scientific publications.• Establishment of inter-departmental connections • Management of cross-functional collaborations with external Companies and Research facilities
Research Intern
Pharmacological in vivo/in vitro studies on the effect of the RNA-based drug “Spiegelmer” on the Acute Kidney Injury. The focus of my research was the inhibition of the chemokine CCL2 by a "Spiegelmer" oligonucleotides-based drug. Acute Kidney injury was my main topic, with particular interest in the disease patho-physiology. The aim of the study was to better understand the process of acute kidney injury and glomerular damage under CCL2 blockade.Result: we found that the blockade of CCL2 by the L-RNA "Spiegelmer" could ameliorate the context of Acute Kidney injury without significant immunogenic response.
