• My EngD project is focused on the development of SiC monofilaments, ceramic fibres used in the reinforcement of Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs) in ultra-lightweight aerospace components. My research work investigates.
• Independently designing and carrying out experiments to improve the chemical vapour deposition (CVD) process and maximise the monofilament’s performance. This has included designing and testing experimental CVD rigs.
• Managing own projects around the time and practical constraints of the operational chemical process plant and dynamic business priorities.
• Operating microscopy techniques including SEM, TEM and FIB, and performing advanced materials characterisation using Raman spectroscopy, EDX, WDS, EBSD, XPS and XRD.
• Articulating academic research and experimental results to the TISICS engineering team and external partners both verbally through regular meetings and written in technical reports.
• Maintaining high standard of HSE within the process plant, following the set procedures for the IS09001 environment and generating COSHH assessments for experiments.
