About Neil Thompson
Over the course of my 27-year career in IT, I’ve been fortunate enough to wear many hats; from leadership roles as a Bid, Project and Release Manager, to creative assignments as a Researcher, Copywriter, Web Developer, UI Designer and Digital Marketing Consultant, as well as technical positions as Second Line Support Specialist. These diverse and highly rewarding set of skills and experiences has enabled me to become a player manager, able to turn my hand to a number of tasks, both as a leader and contributor.I’m a creative person; full stop. From desktop publishing in the nineties, to having full creative control over complex bids in the ‘tensies’, I inject a level of creative design and direction into everything I do. From the first page to the very last pixel, it’s not good enough just to make do. It’s about developing, refining and delivering the clearest and most effective message, exceeding the brief or requirement. It’s about seeing things differently, considering every word and image in order to produce impactful, compelling and innovative commercial propositions. It’s about continual self-improvement, listening to constructive criticism and feedback. It’s about setting a team on the right path, giving them the training, tools and techniques to be effective. But mainly it’s about being engaged, committed and setting an example through my work.Comfortable engaging with stakeholders all the way up to C-level, I tailor responses to meet the business need, leveraging win themes, key differentiators and asserting evidence, in order to create an argument that transcends the entire proposition. Whether it be a simple elevator pitch, technical bid or a hand-crafted brochure-style proposal, I’m experienced in articulating highly complex and often dry and dusty subjects in a way that elevates the benefits and outcomes of a particular solution, over focusing exclusively on the underlying technology.
