I have been practising at the Bar in Ireland for 25 years and became a Senior Counsel in 2022. My work focuses primarily on human rights, constitutional and administrative law. Formerly a law lecturer in Trinity College Dublin and in the University of Galway, a legal researcher in the Law Reform Commission and a legal advisor to Oireachtas committees. I have published in areas of asylum and immigration law, public child law and the law relating to vulnerable adults, international environmental law and law and development. In 2023, I was lead author on the Report on the Intersection of Criminal Law, Private Family Law and Public Child Law in the context of Domestic or Sexual Violence, (jointly commissioned by the Dept of Justice and the National Women's Council of Ireland). Currently the chair of the Legal Aid Board; I am committed to promoting access to justice for all sectors in society. I recently worked in Kenya with NGOs endeavouring to promote access to justice among marginalised communities and hope to be able to do so again in the future.I speak Irish fluently and am trying to bring my French up to a reasonable standard!
