As Youth Specialist in the Mayor’s Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods, I was charged with the development and engagement of young leaders with a special interest in civic engagement and youth violence prevention utilizing a public health approach. I redesigned and led our One Love Louisville Youth Implementation Team, which is a yearlong leadership cohort of youth from areas of the city impacted by violence, who advise Mayor Greg Fischer on policy and initiatives impacting youth across the city. I developed on-boarding, and a general curriculum to scaffold their leadership growth, connected them with other policy stakeholders (e.g. State Representatives, Juvenile Justice Committees, National Partners), and provided opportunities within their communities to lead other young people and promote messages of peace. In addition to managing the youth council, I coordinated the city’s National Youth Violence Prevention Week (NYVPW), through a partnership with SAVE /Sandy Hook Promise. NYVPW occurs each spring, and celebrates various themes of youth violence prevention led by youth serving organizations across Louisville, including Jefferson County Public Schools. Over 45,000 young people participate in the week, and our intention is to continue its growth each year.

I Piloted university-wide student retention program, which connected individuals to systems of support utilizing data trends, resource allocation and planning. I managed a team of 15 success/learning coaches, including selection, training, supervision, performance feedback and developmental coaching. My role included acting as a “boundary-spanner” across functional areas to deliver learning and development that aligned with strategic and academic goals. I established signature programming for college freshmen addressing specific needs identified by trends and patterns in data.

 Supported all of the work of the Institute for Learning and Teaching Excellence, which is the largest provider of training and support in innovative pedagogies such as flipped, online and hybrid course delivery on IUS’ campus.  Stayed abreast of innovations in learning/teaching technologies, faculty development opportunities and instructional design. Earned Quality Matters Certification for Applying Rubrics for Online and Blended Courses. Collaborated with the university Adult Student Center (ASC) Coordinator on a conference presentation on non-traditional/veteran learners at the 2014 Association for Non-Traditional Students in Higher Education (ANTSHE) conference at Kennesaw State University, in Kennesaw Georgia.
