Project: Characterization of the pinewood nematode/Pinus system: a phytochemical and histopathological approach; Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology: 2012-2014. (PTDC/AGR-CFL/120184/2010).Tasks: Maintenance of cultures of the fungus Botrytis cinerea and the nematode Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, maintenance of plants in greenhouse, plant inoculation, nematode extraction and quantification from infected plants, extraction and quantification of antioxidant enzymes, photosynthetic pigments and phenolic compounds from plant tissues, isolation and identification of bacteria from plant samples by molecular methods, gene expression analysis by qRT-PCR, extraction and analysis of volatile organic compounds by SPME and GC/MS, screening of compounds with nematicidal activity through in vivo and in vitro methodologies.

Project: Phytoremediation and bioremediation of contaminants in salt marshes: plant - microorganisms interactions; Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, 2009-2012 (PTDC/MAR/099140/2008).Tasks: Sampling of Juncus maritimus and Phragmites australis plants in saltmarsh ecosystems, maintenance of plants in greenhouse, cadmium quantification by atomic absorption spectroscopy, thiol determination in plant tissues by HPLC, extraction and quantification of chlorophylls, carotenoids, total soluble phenolics and lignin from plant tissues, sediment/rizosediment inoculation with bacterial consortia.

Project: A biotechnological answer to the pine wood nematode problem; AFN-Fundo Florestal Permanente, 2009-2014 (IFAP/NEM/Linha5).Tasks: Maintenance of cultures of the fungus Botrytis cinerea and the nematode Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, maintenance of Picea abies and Cupressus lusitanica plants in greenhouses,plant inoculation, monitoring of symptoms of pine wilt disease, nematode extraction and quantification from infected plants, extraction and quantification of chlorophylls, total soluble phenolics and lignin from plant tissues, plant tissue anatomy analysis through scanning electron microscopy.
