Nuno Almeida is a European registered architect with over 25 years of international experience. He has a degree from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Oporto and is a registered architect since 1998. During his career he has amassed extensive experience in leading large-scale developments in Europe, Middle-East and Far East, specializing in designs of high complexity (both for their geometrical/design intricacy and for their political/strategic sensitivity). He managed large design teams on all phases of the design process – from conceptual design, through to integrated design development and construction documentation. He plays an active role in both the design creation, optimization, and buildability, and in the management of large multidisciplinary teams and the different stakeholders involved. Besides his involvement in the design, he also manages the contractual, commercial and financial aspects of the projects.

Nuno Almeida graduated from the University of Porto in 1997 and joined UNStudio the following year. Nuno is responsible for the aesthetical, technical and managerial aspects of international projects from the concept to construction. He organizes the project team and defines design input and strategies, whilst having intense contact with clients and advisors and managing external relations in balance with internal project coordination. Nuno has a wealth of knowledge in large-scale mixed-use and infrastructural projects, having been involved in several, including the Arnhem Central Master plan, the Public Transport Terminal in Arnhem, the V-on-Shenton in Singapore and the Ponte Parodi project in Genoa. His vast experience in the Middle East includes the Twofour54 projects in Abu Dhabi and the Station Designs for the Doha Metro Network in Qatar.Additionally, with his integrated approach towards design and interest in geometry, he contributed to the geometric development of the organizational design models on the early stages of projects. From developing complex geometries in 3D models in a controlled manner, he derived to unique solutions such as the double-curved geometry of the ‘Twist’ in the Arnhem project. Through his interest in the automation of design and production processes, he has become a specialist on bridging between strong design ideas and new methods of design implementation - valuable know-how which he brings to the parametric platform of UNStudio’s Knowledge Platform. Nuno has been Associate Director and a member of the UNStudio Board of Directors since 2010.
