I am what you can call an Accidental Educator and as odd as it sounds, it is a title which I greatly embrace and am thankful for. Although I have been in this profession for 14 years; albeit some breaks to pursue my interests and preserve my sanity, the truth is, I never started out intending to be an Educator. In fact, what started out as a job to fulfill a financial consideration soon became a passion and remains a profession of great interest and fascination to me. In the 10 years that I have spent interacting with, nurturing and imparting knowledge to the adolescents under my care, I have become more aware and affirmed in my belief that the educator does more than just impart knowledge. In fact, while the educator wears many hats (entertainer, comforter, engineer - you name it, we've done it) I feel that one of the most important one would be that of the 'Questioner' - one who poses questions to stimulate and challenge the students' views and mindset as they embark on a journey of discovery.Working with the adolescents has enabled me to gain an insight as to how the psyche and behaviours are indeed influenced by the family and the early childhood years. And so, while it may seem odd that I am now an Early Childhood Educator, truth is, this is a natural progression as I will now have the opportunity to be instrumental in contributing to the child's foundational years. In addition, with the experience in early childhood, it will also enable me to work towards my goal of being an academic researcher in the next 5 years. Ah, but just in case,you have this impression that I am wonder woman, well honestly, in this journey that I have been on and will continue to be on, I have had assistance from Gandhi, Picasso, Mother Theresa, Katy Perry, Stalin you name it, inspiration is everywhere and impersonation works like a charm! If I do need to recharge, you'll probably find me at the library, parks, on a rockwall or on a mat in Savasana.
