I'm a creative director, visual journalist, illustrator and speaker. My work has been recognized with numerous awards by the Society of News Design (SND) and The Canada Newspapers Awards (NNAs).I've served as a judge for SND39 this year and on two previous occasions.I've lectured and trained newspaper and magazine designers in both English and Spanish at The Poynter Institute, in Europe, Latin America and Asia. I've redesigned numerous publications including The Montreal Gazette, The Toronto Star and The Miami Herald from 1998 - 2011.My professional career includes: El Nuevo Herald, Miami, FL - Design Director. The Miami Herald, Miami, FL - Design Director. The San Jose Mercury News, San Jose, Ca. - Features Design Director. The Montreal Gazette, Montreal, Ca. - Design Director and The Toronto Star, Toronto, Assistant Managing Editor for Presentation. After three years as AME design at the Star, I’ve continued to work as their creative director/designer for print from my design studio in South Florida for the last five years. Beginning this October I will be embracing a new opportunity as Senior News Designer for The Star Tribune in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
