As a child and a young adult, I always had an interest in many subjects and extracurricular activities such as art, engineering, volleyball, and music, but my favorite topics were the sciences, volunteering with the school nurse, and participating in creative writing. When I became an adult and started thinking about my future, I decided I wanted to be a healthcare provider. I remember my very first patient as a CNA that was the one who gave me a kickstart into nursing. She had a big, bold smile and an attitude that she probably got from her mama. Through many moments together in caring for her, she encouraged me to be the nurse I am today. Understanding the need for balance, I have maintained and continued to fuel my love for a variety of activities outside of work. In my free time I enjoy my life as a wife and mother who plays the guitar, competes in powerlifting, and is currently in the process of writing a novel, another childhood dream. I enjoy the sunshine, hot coffee, warm tea, and starry nights. I recently became an advocate for mental health and a mental health warrior for my own wellbeing after suffering the loss of my brother and coming to the realization that I had a lifetime of trauma and healing to process. Because of the healing and therapeutic work I did in my own life, my compassion and love for people has grown immensely and has poured over into my nursing role. Nursing is both a science and an art. The science of my healthcare initiative as a Registered Nurse is to use my skills and knowledge to bridge the gap between theory and actual practice, and provide evidenced based health care to vulnerable and underserved adults in rural communities. The art of my healthcare initiative as a Registered Nurse is to develop health care research to provide high quality, cost efficient health services which will improve quality of life, quality outcomes, and assure patient safety and wellbeing.Fellow scientifically artistic nurses, don't hesitate to connect with me!
