As the director of quality improvement, I was responsible for all clinical sites in Indiana for quality of their clinical metrics, documentation, laboratory codes, and conducted site audits and completed adverse event reporting. Worked together with leadership team in evaluating performance standards. In addition, I served as a trainer for new employees (reproductive health, documentation, and treatment of bilingual patients).

As a nurse surveyor I surveyed nursing homes, assisted living, adult day care, and nursing assistant schools to be in compliance with state and federal regulations.In 2009, I became part of new unit for conducting utilization review of Medicaid patients receiving home health care. Conducted assessment and reports to Department of Aging for medical necessity of services.Within the same agency of DADS, I was promoted to train multidisciplinary health care professionals as state surveyors for the entire South Texas region. I trained various health care workers such as nurses, social workers, and generalists in state surveyor procedures.

I was selected by Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) to intern with the CDER division within the FDA. During this summer, I completed a presentation on inter-individual variability in drug metabolism and response to FDA CDER division. Under the supervision of a mentor I spent the summer learning about pharmacodynamics and pharmacogenetics. In addition, I complied information from various medical articles on differences of drug metabolism in different ethnic groups specifically Hispanics.
