I was active in the new-hire training process and set personal goals regarding my overall customer satisfaction score. After nine months of employment, I was recognized as Employee of the Month for my contributions towards establishing the Hilton as the number one conference center hotel in the area. While completing my MBA, Hilton Eugene accepted my proposal to conduct specialized front desk consulting. My work included standardizing front desk training procedures, scoring desk efficiency during high-volume occupancy, and the development of an auto-populating Excel based calculator for determining a guest’s total room and tax.Hilton Eugene transitioned into the newly established Graduate Eugene. I put together a team of three students to capitalize on the opportunity to assist in managing the transition. We worked closely with the hotel’s marketing team and GM to determine the projected challenges before and after the rebrand, and presented our recommendations directly to the hotel, and subsequently, our recommendations were implemented.

I temporarily filled in a Human Resources position while the hotel located a permanent placement, during this time I kept the hotels record keeping practices in check, held responsibility for the current HR accounting principles, updated hotel communication measures on a daily basis regarding upcoming events and property statistics.

During my undergraduate studies, I joined the Comfort Inn and Suites front desk team on two occasions. Often, I was the only employee on property, independently responsible for managing incoming guests and phone calls, amenity requests and delivery, and maintenance requests and execution. I acted as on-sight security in a rougher area of town, commonly needing to confront trespassers and problematic guests. On select occasions, I was expected to conduct Night Audit which expanded my front desk expertise to 24 hour versatility.

I was fortunate enough to spend a summer in Vancouver, BC while pursuing an internship at the Marriott. In conjunction with completing my internship, I accepted a position at a neighborhood baseball stadium where I developed strategies to increase order accuracy and efficiency, till balance, and customer experience. Every game our team welcomed, sat, and attended to the VIP section in the stadium, representing one of the initial points of contact between the guest and the stadium. To be considered, I was required to complete "Serving It Right", which introduced me to the world of alcohol purchasing, sales, and delivery.

UNLV requires all Hospitality Management majors to complete an industry specific internship before graduation. I was selected from a pool of highly accredited applicants to join the Human Resources team and conduct my studies at one of the most recognizable downtown locations in Vancouver, BC. I studied through experience the responsibilities, general practices, and importance that Human Resources has within a hotel. Upon request, I was able to expand my studies into other departments of the hotel, observing how they work together, and how their goals and achievements compare and contrast. When I had about 6 weeks left, I began sifting through applications to locate the next intern. After narrowing the possibilities, I conducted interviews, background checks, and employment eligibility to work in Canada. Upon selection of hire, I trained the replacement on expectations, standard procedures, and where she can go to solicit help if needed.
