CurrentI am responsible for developing and representing library presences at 13 schools for at-risk youth and youth with learning disabilities in the Montreal area. In my positions I:- Had one day of formal training before commencing my first sojourn with school libraries- Self-motivate and operate with minimal supervision or direct aid- Perform frequent situational analysis- Manage ambiguity- Built two small library spaces from scratch and run another small library, which includes: finding or buying furniture and accessories; buying and transporting books (often from alternative sources), developing policies, procedures, documents and service hours; developing relatively simple databases and relational databases from scratch; and other duties (pending), etc.- Created Outreachresource.com for teachers- Oversee collection development for all the schools- Teach information literacy / Research Skills classes at all the schools when requested- Liaise and negotiate with dozens of different teachers and staff, as well as book suppliers/vendors- Interact with at-risk and learning-disabled youth from multiple age groups, cultures and backgrounds in a positive and progressive fashion- Read stories to children- Perform readers' advisory duties- Manage multiple needs and projects simultaneously- Co-run book clubs and reading clubs- Research, edit and facilitate articles and article-based current events sessions- Accommodate a host of different needs from school-to-school- Organize, weed and develop teachers' class book collections- Search for difficult to find book requests for teachers- Tutor youth in Web Design, History and English- Teach beginner guitar class- Teach and practice bicycle maintenance- Help plan and develop English Exams- Attend professional development conferences and workshops- Travel extensively via public transit and bicycle- Operate on a relatively flexible schedule but get the job done properly and on time
