The Hugo Awards, presented annually since 1955, are science fiction’s most prestigious award. They are voted on by members of the World Science Fiction Convention (“Worldcon”). I am the Administrator of the Hugo Awards for Seattle Worldcon 2025, which administers the awards; previously WSFS Division Head and Hugo Administrator of the 2024 Worldcon, Glasgow.

One of five judges for the annual Arthur C. Clarke Award for the best science fiction novel published in the United Kingdom in 2022, nominated by the Science Fiction Foundation. (Previously served in this role in 2014-15.)

I led Crisis Group's field research, analysis, policy prescription and advocacy activities in relation to Europe. I was responsible for publishing fifteen to twenty in depth reports every year and then advocating our recommendations to high-level policymakers in Europe and America. I was CEPS' leading researcher on South-East Europe, coordinating a network of over twenty think-tanks and independent researchers across the Balkans and publishing the monthly CEPS Europa South-East Monitor which reviewed developments in EU policy towards the region and built up to an e-mail circulation of over 2000. As a member of CEPS' team working on.

My job with NDI was as an in-country field representative, working on USAID-funded programs to develop the organisation and infrastructure of democratic political parties, in order to enable them to compete more effectively with the more extreme nationalist parties in future elections. I was responsible for setting the student union budget, maintenance of equipment, managing the students union shop, training student activists and societies, and for research and general campaigning inside and outside Cambridge University.
