Island Psychiatry is creating and new business model to drastically improve behavioral health care on Long Island through an integrated individualized treatment to address challenges people face in accessing quality mental health care.

Clinical Director of YAI's NY START Program (Systemic, Therapeutic, Assessment, Resource and Treatment). This is a strengths-based, client centered program aimed at supporting individuals with disabilities who have behavioral health needs. Support is provided by highly trained staff systematically to treat individuals in Manhattan, Bronx and Queens preventively and in response to needs and crises.

Led a team of 35 clinical and educational staff to implement a unique school model for 50-70 students in Kindergarten through age 22. I brought a high level of positive energy to the team and created a mantra for solution-focused thinking in a high problem solving environment. I worked collaboratively with districts, parents, professionals and students to create individual plans and provide oversight to their implementation at school. I facilitated IEP’s, ensuring that they are thorough, well-represented, thoughtful, child-centered. I held such responsibilities as providing administrative oversight to programs, leading best practice, clinical case consultation, coaching, facilitating and modeling intervention, leading a workforce and supporting their growth and professional development, training design and implementation, community based relationship building, program design and implementation of preventive strategies, and preparing and presenting reports, which are similar to ones stated in job posting. I successfully developed and oversaw the department, established effective policies and procedures for the effective functioning of the program and enhanced programs through progressive use of technology.

Used evidenced based practices to conduct functional analysis assessments and present findings to IEP teams. Developed and implemented positive behavior intervention plans at a school for children with neurodevelopmental disabilities, specifically Autism. Coached parents, educators, specialists and behavior assistants in the implementation of behavior plans and best practice in behavior management. Trained staff in preventive and safety techniques for working with students with aggressive behavior. Provided 1:1 counseling to students with comorbid disorders including a range of mental health needs, ASD's, behavioral disorders, and ADHD/ADD.

The Emergency Response Team (ERT) is located in the Queens Family Justice Center a part of Queens Criminal Court housed with the District Attorney's Office and the Mayor's Office for Domestic Violence. Provided crisis intervention, individual counseling and group therapy to female victims of domestic violence. Oversaw case management services provided by 5 Safe Horizon staff, providing supervision and staff evaluations. Managed administrative components of the unit including finances, grant funder reports, unit evaluations, and accountability statistics.

Provided consultation to programs with children on Autism Spectrum Disorders. Consulted on best practices in Behavioral Therapy and Educational Models for successful classroom management and individualized student plans. Provided center-based, in-home and community-based behavioral therapy for children and adults diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, Behavioral Disorder or other nuerodevelopmental disorder.

Developed a systematic approach to recruiting and hiring recreational support staff for children with disabilities. Networked with colleges and universities to build relationships and recruit interns. Increased intern staff driving down staffing costs and educating aspiring students. Enhanced program efficiency through curriculum development. Promoted curriculum goals and program to universities and students in MSW programs. Prompted new research in the area of caregivers of individuals with disabilities which may contribute qualitative and quantitative data to the field and improve the delivery of services by improving knowledge of caregiver needs at various stages within the caregiving experience.

Assessed the educational needs of 50 students and developed an educational and behavioral approach. Evaluated mental health risk of children through individual interviews, and recommended interventions. Fundraised domestically and internationally to purchase shoes and school supplies.

Prevented the removal of medically fragile or disabled children and their siblings from at risk homes. Proposed, designed, and implemented an activity-based sibling autism group for the agency and hired an assistant. Secured financial resources for families and advocated for parental and child rights.

Increased positive behaviors of children with mental health disorders, disabilities or chronic illnesses and their siblings. Conducted the first clinical mental health presentation by a Bachelors level staff on Autism Spectrum Disorders. Completed bio-psychosocial assessments for families and reported progress, needs and goals to the clinical team.

Oversaw the before and after school program of 20 students at an elementary school. Supervised 2-3 assistants. Planned and implemented program activities daily including tutoring, sports, art and games. Facilitated social interactions and maintained the health and safety of the program participants.
