As a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow, my research focused on development of noninvasive tools to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of the neural circuitry involved in learning, memory formation and consolidation and synaptic plasticity within living organisms.

Hughes Space and Communications Group was a pioneer in the aerospace industry. It built the world's first geosynchronous communications satellite, Syncom, in 1963 and the first geosynchronous weather satellite, ATS-1, in 1966. It also built all seven Surveyor lunar landers for the Apollo Program.While I worked there, we launched the Galileo probe that explored Jupiter; built the communications systems for the International Space Station; and grew the company to become the world’s largest producer of commercial satellites representing nearly 40 percent of satellites in service worldwide by 2000 at which time it was acquired by Boeing and became the Boeing Satellite Development Center.
