About Johannes Koponen

Currently, I am leading a team to launch 'Konsensus.me', a seed-funded, award-winning peer prediction platform aimed at empowering organisations to make well-informed, long-term decisions. I'm also in the final stages of my Ph.D. research, which explores the institutional barriers that prevent society from maximizing the benefits of digital platforms. My work pays particular attention to the potential of 'anti-rival' information products, characterised by their negative subtractability. Dedicated to shaping the future of platform societies and platform companies, I am the author of two acclaimed non-fiction books (published in 2019 and 2022) on the subject; my core expertise lies in futures research, platform business model innovation, and the application of scenario-based methodologies.As a former Lead for Global Openings and Theme Leader in the Democracy and Capabilities team at the think tank Demos Helsinki, I lead a diverse and large team of experts, consultants, and researchers. We collaborated on a wide array of projects, ranging from IoT technologies to education and health to work and societal participation, striving to foster new capabilities, innovate governance, and empower different groups.I am the proud founder of Scoopinion.com, a recipient of the prestigious 2011 Uutisraivaaja Award by the Helsingin Sanomat Foundation. My innovative Herring project, a computer game designed to aid children's hearing tests, has been successfully implemented in three Finnish university hospitals and won the distinguished Gesundheit Award by the Finnish Innovation Fund in 2013.Other notable contributions include conceptualising a new healthcare center at Forum Virium Helsinki, producing a PSA system, and designing the social innovation facilitation process, Soundbites. While at Stanford University, I prototyped a device that enables drivers to compete in vehicle fuel efficiency.I hold an M.Sc. (Tech.) in Knowledge Intensive Business from Aalto University and possess a comprehensive understanding of communication and media research, futures studies, and product and service innovation.
